Hybrid super-credits could distort India’s CAFE-III emission targets, warns ex-NITI Aayog official
“If CAFE-III allows inflated hybrid credits and small-car exemptions, manufacturers could meet targets on paper while delaying real investment in electric vehicles. A strong hybrid is fundamentally a petrol vehicle. Giving it credits close to an EV under CAFE-III is regulatory fiction,” said former NITI Aayog EV program head Dr Randheer Singh.
